Pediatric Healthy Weight Research & Treatment Center – Patient Care

The ECU Pediatric Healthy Weight Comprehensive Care Clinic provides multidisciplinary, family-centered medical care and treatment for at-risk, overweight and obese children and youth in eastern North Carolina.

  • The clinic serves children and youth who have a Body Mass Index (BMI) over the 95th percentile for their age and gender.
  • Patients see a pediatrician and dietitian during the initial evaluations. Typically blood is drawn at the first visit unless lab work has been done recently. Initial appointments usually last 3 to 4 hours.
  • Referrals are made to pediatric subspecialties (endocrinology, cardiology, etc.) or for physical therapy services as needed.
  • After the first visit, patients are scheduled for follow-up appointments with the dietitian and medical provider to monitor progress in achieving weight-related goals and trouble shoot any problems.
